all up in yo grill!
when it comes to mixing, I've had a field day with sound from my instruments....vocals I'm still working on but what i'd like to know is when mastering on sonar, are the effects that come with the software any good for that or should i just knock over a mom and pop gas station and buy some cheap effects machines.

ok i'm no mastering engineer, but i do what i can....basically all i use in the timeworks compressor (and really i don't need that too often cuz most of my stuff is sequenced and dosn't need further compression, but that eq from timeworks works great for me, switch that thing to graffic mode, and play with your balls! lol it's a nice toy for free, fully parametric, all with ajustable q and both high and low shelving, there's also a thing called tape simulator that really adds a bit of digital warmth (gotta dig the pun)...i just set it to 30ips with minimal saturation and throw that at the end of the chain....as far as mastering goes that's about all i do for now.

peace

Howdy,

You can improve an overall mix in Sonar using the two Timeworks plug-in's. The CompressorX and the EQ.

I was just reading this article and it talks about Mastering in Sonar.

Using these you can achieve i 'nicer' sound, but it wouldn't be true mastering (if you know what I mean). But through tweaking you should be able to get a better result.
