Anyone have any experience with sending a CD of home-recorded material out to be mastered? I've seen a lot of websites for mastering houses, but no articles/threads about who people's experiences or recommendations.

ANYTHING can be sent to a mastering house, but you have to ask yourself if the recordings merit it, and also what your intention is for the mastered recordings (for sale? family? friends?)

Add polish to a mediocre recording and you get a polished mediocre recording... on the other hand, if the recordings are reasonably well-balanced and well-mixed, mastering can really make 'em shine!

It is ultimately up to you to decide whether the costs are worth it.... be brutally honest with yourself and then decide....

Whoops, I see I was a little unclear -- let me clarify my question. Does anyone have any info on *specific* mastering houses that they've used and if they were happy with the work? I'm shopping around for one, but can find very little objective reporting on the subject.

Doh!!!!!!!!
