Hello everyone, I have a quick question to ask I have Protools Mbox and would like to know what Mastering or Mixdown software that will help me get the job done?? First off, I don't have a budget limit, I am willing to purchase any software that will do this!!! My band is a hard rock band and the style is Killswitch Engaged mix with Linkin Park. I really love the way the mix is coming together, very hard guitar are up front!! and smooth and heavy. High production sounding. So far my mixes are complete and really sounds kick ass at the moment but I still can feel the demo sounding soul in this project I hope to have a good recommendation on some sort of software for Mastering or Mixdown plug in and money is not a problem. Oh by the way, please understand that I 'm trying to accomplish this part continuing where I'm at right now, and not looking to send it to a Mastering engineer. Not being stubborn just like to experiment since I took a loan out of my house and able to play around with music,,,thank you all!!!

For about $200 you can get Izotope's Ozone 3 .

It's a very well organized and easy to use piece of software. The documentation is exceptional. It's a very good place to start without spending a bundle.

kingrichards,

Not meaning to sound short, but in just the past month there have been two extensive threads and a poll on this very question in this very forum that answer this question in excruciating detail. One of the newest threads on this was actually a poll on mastering software, locted here, just two pages away from where we are at right now and active as of 9 days ago. Scroll to the bottom of that poll's first page and you'll find links to 5 more threads that are almost identical in nature. Also, a quick search on "mastering software" from the pull down menu at the top of this page will yield many more. I'm sure all your questions can be found in these already beaten paths. If you have any further questions that these threads don't answer, ask them here.

If you can't make the mixes sound "non-demo" with what you have, it isn't the software's fault. There isn't some magic plugin that you can run it through that's going to make it sound "pro" by any stretch.

"Mastering software" is more of a buzzword than anything else. Unless of course, you're talking about PQ coding software that actually creates the production master (which is the core of mastering in general that people seem to forget about).

My bet is that you would have a budget limit if we recommended hardware ......

i didnt know there was such a thing as "mastering software"!!!!!

but isnt mastering basicly compression, limiting, stereo expansion, EQ, and maybe an exciter (if it calls for it)?????

if thats the case, you dont need a software bundle specificly for mastering, most DAW softwares come with these plug-ins.....................

Mastering is the creation of the production master from a collection of mixes.

The processing is really secondary...
