So, I've got this Valvestate 100watt head that i use as my road back-up, and it's acting quite funny. On the clean channel (i'm sure it's on the dist channel too) when i giver with a solid strum, I get a bunch of crackle kinda like mild distortion. It never used to do this. I've tried several different gits, cables, heads, and cabs to make sure that it is indeed the head.

. As boingo said, this sounds very much like a bad preamp tube. If not, then you may have some strange short somewhere.
