Didn't I read somewhere that MXL and Mogami are part of the same company, and therefore all MXL mics use Mogami cable?

I opened up my V63M, and found no Mogami Cable..just some wires...What exactly is Mogami Cable anyhow?

Hey you guys with both models..open up the hood and take a looksee? Whats in there really.

Peace,
Dennis

I wrote MXL/Marshall an email a while back, and the response I got was the they are the same microphone. Same body, same electronics, the exact same mic, striaght from the horses mouth.

Mogami cable is just a brand of wire Marshall Electronics sells. Inside the mikes, it looks like regular wire. Whether it makes any difference is debatable; there's not enough distance between any of the connections for it to really matter. :) Kinda hard to mess up single-conductor pieces of multi-strand copper wire....

i'm getting the v67m then...serves my purposes..thanks all for the replies...i appreciate it:D

Harvey had a tip about sanding the inside lip of the bottom shell to make a better ground connection. My v67M didn't hum, but being the curious person I am, I took it apart and lightly sanded some black paint off of the inside lip and low and behold, under the black was a very recognizable shade of GREEN. This solved the mystery in my mind! BTW, I took the Mars ad to a local pro sound/music store and he reluctantly sold me his green&gold v67 that was $225 in his display case for $99! Oh yeah, they do sound exactly the same to my shot out ears.

Verrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting!Any other curious minds try this, let us know.I'm too chicken to open my V67B up.

Tom,

It's really no big deal. Like opening the hood on a car. Unscrew the big black ring on the bottom of the mic. Now, while holding on to the gold grill, gently pull the green shell off the mic. Notice there's a little notch in the top lip of the shell to help you align it when you put the shell back on. That's all there is to it to get to the electronics.

The gold grill is held in with some screws, so you can't accidently get to the capsule easily. The silver dome thingy just above the XLR jack is the transformer.
