Your mo-o-ovin' so fast..
hey everyone, i just purchased a fast track pro and i still need to get a decent mic. I have around 100 to spend on it and i talked to a guy at sam ash about my set up and he suggested the v67 by marshall. So i was just woundering if you think this is a good first choice, or if you have any suggestions....

oh and: im going to be using this for simple vocal and acoutic guitar recording. and Im doing it through the fast track pro and into cool edit pro.

thanks alot.

V67 is right there on the $100 list, along with Studio Projects B-1 and Oktava MK319. There are some new up and comers that the jury is still out on, namely AT2022 and AKG Perception 100.-Richie

thanks^....but still, would you say it is decent....would it work for what i need...

?

thanks.

I have both the V67 and the Studio Projects B1. I get more use from the B1. Either will work for what you want to record. Good luck

the V67 is a perfectly fine low budget mic. it's got a weird, hashy sort of midrange, but it's got an interesting color to it, and it doesn't sizzle on the high end like a lot of other cheap chinese mics. so yes, it's decent.

will the V67 work for what you need? for vocals, absolutely. for acoustic guitar? i don't think you'll be overly pleased.

now, take the SP B1. for acoustic guitar? absolutely. for vocals? i don't think you'll be overly pleased.

do you see a trend? :D

i've never gotten a good acoustic sound out of my V67, but it's a go-to on some vocalists. i've used a B1 successfully for a lot of things (acoustic guitar among them), but i've only had one vocalist that sounded good on the B1.

so yes, the V67 will "do what you want", but don't be surprised if you're not thrilled with the acoustic sound. of course, i've not found a $100 mic that does "everything well"--the B1 comes close, though.

cheers,
wade

I liked my v67 on acoustic, especially nylon string acoustic. I also liked it pretty well on cello and vocals and any number of sources. I think it's a good mic.

Both B1 and V67 are good for the price, I`ve used both on vox, they sound different but good.
I think the B1 might win the prize on what it does on acoustic guitar. :)

cough up another coupla bucks and get a CAD M179, I does well at most everything

(^in response to all who posted^)

Thanks everyone, i have alot of faith in this site, and i have seen alot of good reviews on the v67. So i think im going to go with that. I am just starting out and as far as i know, it can do what i need.

and anythings a jump from what im doing now, thank god i stoped being so cheep and got a fast track pro. I was using a cheep gamers mic through a standard dell sound card to cep. which ='ed crap.

thanks agin guys,

I like my V67, but the CAD M179 is also a really good call. the V67 will work on most sources and actually sounds very good on quite wide range of sources. The M179 doesn't have the character that the V67 has, but it is a more versatile mic.

Cheers,
Zach

Thanks alot for that.....it would help me alot in my decision if anyone had any recordings of the b1/more v67g (maybe some acoustic guitar with vocals.)
im going for a warm sounding acoustic guitar and vocals and i know that the v67g is supposed to sound pretty bright.

or anyother recordings of mics in the 100-150 range (perferably 100) would impact my decision pretty heavily.

arg and sam ash sucks when you store order and it takes a week at minimum!
(im waiting just for them to have any info on where my thing is/if they've shipped it yet. and its so tedious just waiting and waiting!)
^^^my fast track pro^^^

but really thanks alot to all of you!

The v67 is not overly bright. It's overall reputation is actually of a dark mic.

I agree on the v67g not being bright its definitively one of the darker mics I own. Such as SP B1 (I`m gonna get neg reps again  )

Really? i swear i read a review on it saying that it is.

*the thing is this will be my only mic. I am generally new to recording though i understand cool edit pro, and basic facts about the whole set up and i know what im doing with music itself.

At first i was thinking of mic'ing myself and the guitar at the same time with one mic. but i now have the idea that that would probly suck. (I am also struggling with room acoustics) i am using an shallow bowl ovation that has pickups so i plan to give that a try to (directly pluging them into my fast track).

i was really warming up to doing it live, but hey i havent givin it a chance yet.
do you have any ideas. Maybe i can multi track it...(im still looking into head phones too......sorry guys i know this is becoming a handful)

and i know i have a low budget (after my fast track pro).
-thanks alot

There is that MXL990 deal with a sdc included at guitar center for arround $100 . I like the v67 but I use a SP C1 and go to it alot...SM57 rules arround here...and Ive bought them for arround 20 bucks each.
