Anybody use this? Read an interview with Iron maiden, who swear by em. Could you DI guitars with it?

well, i was gonna buy one at one point.

my old guitar rig was a Digitec 2120 preamp, with a Marshall EL34 50/50 power amp.

i sold the whole thing instead..

from my experience with other preamp/effects things, well, i really dont like them. everything sounds too thin, and nothing beats a 1x12 combo for me.

a blues junior can be had for $250 if you're good at spotting deals ;)

Go over to the Monster Rack forum at harmony central and ask. There are several people there that use or have used them.

I have ben using my JMP-1 for about 12 years or so and I love it. Yes you can DI with it. My preference is to use it with a Mesa amp rather than a Marshall though. I used to run mine thru a Marshall 9200 amp and it sounded real harsh and grainy. I could never get the warmth out of it that I was looking for, but since I swiched over to the Mesa Strategy 500 amp. I get all the warmth and distortion I could ever ask for. The JMP is basically a modeler (for lack of a better term) of virtually all the different Marshall amps you could ask for. The cleans aren't what you would get out of a Fender twin or anything, but then again Marshall has never really been about the cleans anyway, but for distortion, I think it kicks ass. Settings are a snap to dial up and tweak, it has 99 patches that can be programmed and used as presets that can be easily called using any midi pedal. I have been in bands that played death metal, to blues, to soft rock, and I have been able to cover the bases with that one preamp.

i'm with flamin-gitar on many accounts....

i use it, own it, and love it...have had it for many years and the only problem i ever had was the plastic washer on the input broke, and i had to replace it...

also like him, i use mine with a mesa boogie power amp, specifically, an older (early 90's i believe) 50/50...although i've never tried it with a marshall power amp....when i was younger on tour my amp broke, and the band we were out with had this setup and i used it every night and fell in love...

DI'ing with it WORKS, but i can't say that i've really tried my best to get insane amounts of success with it...just used it for scratch...

unlike him, i love the clean sounds i can get out of it...but i don't go for SUPER clean...i like a little mud in it...

i'd suggest buying one for the overall tone and versatility....

IF ANYTHING, i'd suggest buying a low wattage power amp (a 20/20 or something) and a low wattage speaker you can really crank that into...

then build yourself a simple ISOBOX with the speaker...you'll have far better success than just DI'ing that way, and it'll be just as quiet
