So, what are your experiences with this Microphone?

Is it even worth the 59-100 dollars?

which marshall mic are you referring to?
If you do a search for the specific mic, you will probably come up with alot of results. There's lots of threads around about MXL Mics.

Hope this helps,
Todd

The V67 and the 603 are both considered high-quality mics by lots of folks on this BBS, especially for the money. The V67 is used primarily for vocals, and the 603 for overheads or acoustic instruments.

MXL's i guess

like the MXL 1006 and the 2001P, how good are those?

Do you think that would be better than a behringer B-1? (same price)

Sam Ash used to have a Marshall Electronic mic that looked like an MXL for 59.99, dunno what happened to that.

I like my 1006. It's a truely general purpose mic. Handle pretty much anything.
I never tried the 2001P, but most people here agree that the P stands for Piece of....

I don't like my 2001p,I think it is quite harsh to the point of being unusable.I actually paid $200 for mine (without a shockmount!)when they first came out.It was my first condenser and for a month or so I thought it sounded very crisp but it didn't take long before I started to hear the crispness as the harshness it actually was.My ears grew tired of this mic without even hearing a better mic to compare it to.If you are looking for a mic in the under $100 price range the Studio Projects(not the Behringer)B-1 should be hitting the stores in a couple weeks with a street price of $79,it should definately be worth a listen.

yep!!!

I like my pair of 603's. The 2001 can be modified a couple of different ways. Scott Dorsey has a solid state mod (that I did) and David Royer has a tube mod. The Dorsey mod was cool and fairly easy and the mic is pretty usable now. Try a search, I had a post a while back where I posted clips of the 2001 on guitar cabs before and after I did the mod.

Marshall/MCA Studio Pro SP1

I have a pair of MXL603s and a pair of MXL2001s. The 603s work great as acoustic guitar mics and under-the-snare.... the MXL2001 works on loud guitar amps when mic'd 6-10 feet away and is surprisingly good as a tom or snare top mic, and drum overheads.

I've seen the Marshall-distributed MCA Studio Pro SP1 mic advertised in the latest Samash.com catalog and on their website for $59... anyone tried this one yet?

Uh, as far as I know, there aren't any links on the web. I got the Scott Dorsey mod by finding his email address and sending him a check. I don't think he has a website. The Royer mod was in tapeop a couple issues back, and tapeop has a website (tapeop.com) but the mod doesn't have a site as far as i know. I've seen the most info about these mods on various recording forums.

Is there an amazing difference between the regular v67m and the dorsey mod? I would be willing to try this, but could someone please "school me" on this idea? Is there a big difference between the dorsey and royer mods?

with these mods, what would the mxl v67m sound like after?

thanks in advance!

Scott Dorsey's board will fit the V67 mikes just fine - the V67 and 2001 use the same PCB's. Any Chinese mike with the trapezoidal-shaped circuit board will accomodate Scott's retrofit board.

Do a search on rec.audio.pro on the subject of Chinese mic mods...reading for days.

has anyone tried to "dorsey mod" on their v67m? what differences did you notice?

thanks!
