hi all,

I play for a long time live with my POD through the effect loop of a simple Fender transistor (Ultrachorus) amp, but with my new band I almost always play on the 'British Classic' setting. When I looked it up in the line 6 manual it was based upon a 50Watt Marshall Plexi from 1968.

So I am wondering if I shouldn't buy me a Marshall head and 4x12 Cab (or combo?)so I can get the real stuff and off course look more impressive on stage:D

Seriously, I know little or less about Marshall amps so could someone suggest me which Marshall amp I have to look for that comes close to that plexi sound (I kinda figured the original itself is hard to find and I don't want to spend too much money)?

thx for help!!

You can get a 50 watt Plexi head used for a good price. A new one is like a grand so...maybe 5 or 6 used. Plus a cabinet. I don't think the Plexi came in combos ever, but check out a BluesBreaker...very sweet, and close to the Plexi.

Those old Marshalls also were sold inder the 'Park' name. They are identical to the comparable Marshall, just have Park written on them.

Don't confuse the new Park amps, tho.

Here in Belgium is the cance of finding a second hand Plexi a lot smaller though, and I'm afraid he would be more expensive to. I'd check the BluesBreaker though.

Any other suggestions?

Brett,

Drive to London - go to Denmark Street (off the Charing Cross Road).
Lots of music shops there. Also check out the Vintage shops (but be prepared for some serious money).

VAT is 17.5%, which you can recoup on the way back to Belgium.

Happy hunting.

I would think that if you live in Europe it would be CHEAPER to get a Marshall due to the company being in England. But I don't know, I've never been over there.

I have to say it again....The bluesbreaker kicks ass!

Brett,

I have given it my considered opinion, and have to concur with the extremely technical guitar player description that Locus has supplied.

The Bluesbreaker does indeed 'kick ass'.
