Marshall 1974X/Fender '57 Twin-Amp Tweed/VoxAC30

Ok, looking for some amp suggestions. I am looking for an all tube combo that will cover a few different sounds if possible. From blues to rock. I know that is asking a bit.

Soi far I am looking at the following -

-Marshall 1974X
-Fender '57 Twin-Amp Tweed reissue
-Vox AC30

Any suggestions? Other recommends?

I know this is in the realm of "taste" for the most part, but just like to hear some opinions.

Also, the main instument that will be used with the amp is a Les Paul Standard LE.

Now, that is a tough one!! This is why I own four amps. That way I can cover all the bases.

I've never played a Fender Twin, but I do own a Vox AC30CCH and I just built a Marshall 50W plexi. I gotta say that the plexi breaks up quite easily. The Fender might not breakup enough (maybe some other guys could post some opinions on it.) The New Vox is delightful in its tonal diversity. It can pump out anything from Chiming cleans to a nice classic Marshall-ish Distortion.

A great tool for deciding what tone you want is to fid the tones you love from recordings. If you know what kind of amps get your favorite tones it makes the decision much easier...

Ive played the tweed twins, and to me its really not what you think of in a Fender Twin sound. You can get the Twin sound really cheap by finding a 70's silverface Twin Reverb. I see them all the time for $300-400. Some good tubes and a check over by a tech and it will sound as good as any Twin out there.

I think the Vox has the most potential. Although its also the heaviest of those amps (and of most combo amps made), something to consider when choosing a combo for those who'll be lugging to shows by yourself. A Les Paul will really push an AC30 into sweet overdrive fairly easily, albeit not at low volumes (newCC amps excluded, they have a master volume, unlike other AC30s). Of course, with a Strat or Ric you'll get that jangly bell clean they're widely known for.

If you're looking to drop a load of cash, search out and try some amps by Two Rock or Fuchs for an amp that really will cover alot of ground of all three of these amps.

hi, i just saw your PM. i have no recordings yet of my 1974x but just think - a bluesy jimmy page to sweet hard rock crunch. i wouldnt recomend the 1974x for cleans.

i have the ac30cc and it is an awesome amp for dirty to cleans but i use it mostly for cleans at the present time. my only grips of that amp is that it took me 2 months to understand how to adjust the controls to the sounds i like. maybe im just retarded lol

the ac30cc is louder than the 1974x.

the fender twin will give you nice loud cleans obviously but i really dont have too much experience with one but im pretty sure its not the best amp for crunchy distortion.

i definitely recomend the ac30cc if you can only have one amp. also if you want a super nice beatley/jangley clean get yourself a rickenbacker 360 and put some pyrmid flatwound strings on it and it will sound glorious through the AC30CC's clean channel.
