Are these any good? I seen them at M/F for 999.00 and they list for 4,800:confused:   must be something wrong with these, I've never seen a bigger price cut than that. Looks like pretty heavy hardware though. Anyone know anything about them?

You need to be more specific. Mapex has, in order from high to low Orion, Saturn Pro, Mars Pro (Pro M), Mars (M series) and Venus (V series).

Which model are you looking at?

A list of $4,800 sounds like Orion (all Maple) - which at $999 is a steal (or a dealer mistake)

Mapex does have a limited addition Pro M (6 piece) which are actually Maple shells (normally the M series are not all maple) which sells for $1,000, but this set does not include hardware (other than tom mounting). If that's what your looking at - it's still a good price for maple shells - but you would need to add on cost of hardware.

In general Mapex make good drums - the Orions a a very good top of the line set and the Saturn and Pro M serier are good semi-pro kits.

Okay...my bad, it's the Pro "M" series and the list is 1999.00 not 4,800...must of been a flea on my screen. What I ment by hardware was the mounts and stands...sorry I'm not a drummer, don't understand all the lingo:) . But still do you think this set would sound pretty good? With a good drum "tuner"?...I have access to one. I have some pretty good cymbal's, high-hat, and crash already.

Also..I know I have enough mic's to record the kit with..4/57's an AKG kick mic..and AT/40/50 mabey for over head...but how about "gateing" what do I need to gate? Cymbal's, snare, what about everything else? I have six gates to use, is that enough? Sorry for my ignorance on the subject...David

should sound fine...

David,

The Pro M series should sound pretty good. I think you will be impressed with the sound you get for the money. That is assuming you tune the drums correctly and all..

Good luck!
