Hey anybody,
Ok, here's the deal. We have a 24 channel mixer (older - analog), and we have recently purchased a Delta 1010lt. We installed the drivers, everything seems ok. We also purchased (we thought) Cakewalk home studio 2004. Turns out it was a rip-off, and we got a burnt copy of 2002. Also, we are working with Windows ME (whose reputation obviously precedes itself). We are now ordering a real version of Home Studio 2004, but we had already installed the 2002 version to see if the interface was working, and if we could get it to recognize everything. Our problem is that it only lets us choose from 2 channels at one time, (left and right), no matter how many simultaneous tracks we are trying to record. We want to be able to record a drumset with 4 - 5 mics, and that's why we went with an interface with more inputs. If we were to install XP and buy home studio 2004, could we record the tracks simaltaneously? Or do we need to look at another program. We also tried the Free Protools program, and we couldn't get it to recognize any of the inputs. Basically, we're not sure what we're doing here, and I appreciate the experts such as yourselves helping out the recording challenged such as ourselves.

I'll start by saying I've never used the software your using, but the premise is the same with the Delat cards- (I DO have the 1010lt). You select channels as groups. Thats the only way you can do it. So, for instance, you want to record mics 1, 2, 3 and 4 from your delta input section into tracks 1, 2, 3 and 4 in your software. For track 1, select the first group of left /right inputs and pan the software hard left (for track 1). Do the same for the second track but pan the software hard right. Now you have mics one and two on thier own track in your software. For tracks 3 and 4, you'll select the second group of stereo inputs and do the same thing pannin hard left and hard right in the software.

Hopefull that began to answere your question, and made at least a little sence. If not I'll try again later

HS 2004 will let you record multiple tracks simultaneously. The old HS would only let you do 2 at a time.

Another option to look at if you don't need midi is Cakewalk's Guitar Tracks 3. I think it's cheaper than HS

Guitar Tracks 3 is cheaper indeed, but you won't be able to use ASIO driver. And it doesn't support Win98 & ME. IMHO, you better get at least HS2004 and WinXP Home (alot cheaper than Pro). You'll thank me latter :)

ps. Get in touch with M-Audio site. They've just released new driver for Delta / Cakewalk users. Less CPU cycles & better stability on my combo Delta 1010LT / Sonar 3.

GT2 didn't support asio, but GT3 most certainly does.

I use asio myself with GT3 & my Delta 44

Hey guys,
Thanks very much for the answers. So, I guess I will be ordering HS 2004.... That makes perfect sense. Oh yeah, one more question: Should this interface work with FREE Protools?

PTFree only works with Win98, not XP.

Yeah, I know. We currently have windows ME installed. And if we want to record multiple tracks into ProTools, can we use the 1010lt?

Yeah dude, I understand that Windows ME is not Windows 98. I guess I'm dense, just not as dense as I'm apparently coming across on the board here.

The reason I repeated the question, however, is because on the protools site, http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/ , it says "for windows 98 or windows ME" ... so that's probably the reason I made the assumption that we can use the free protools with our particular operating system...

In addition, we already had installed it and it seems to work fine. I just don't have a lot of experience with Protools (or any recording software for that matter), and I needed to know if there was some way to get it to recognize the 1010lt inputs.

Also, how many simaltaneous audio tracks can you record AT ONE TIME in HS 2004? I can't seem to figure out the information on their site.

By the way, thanks to all of you for your help... I appreciate it very much.

scott re....your need to record multiple tracks at once.
i would give serious consideration to n track at fasoft.com maybe.
also a highly underrated pkge imho is multitrackstudio.com.
just try the demos if you dont believe me.

Heheh, thanks for correcting me :D It's not listed on their site, that's why I assumed it couldn't use ASIO :) I stand corrected :)

ok, switching gears. We now have a Mac G4 at our disposal. What are some good recording programs for mac? Home Studio 2004 is exclusively for windows, correct? Other than the obvious, protools, what is an affordable MULTI-TRACK Option for a G4? and my delta 1010lt should work for the mac, right?
