Hi all,

did any of you ever make your own rack or flightcase for a rack? Those fucking flightcases in the shop are so expensive, so I think with a little DIY I can make my own.

Any experiences, or sizes?

thx!

A rack and a flightcase are two very different animals. Whaddaya wanna build???

Rack gear is typically 19.0" wide. So the interior width of your rack wants to be 19.125".

One rack space is 1.75" high.

You can find predrilled/tapped rail online from lots of sources, usually they will spec the length and how many rack spaces it translates into.

Building your own flight cases is an extremly bad idea. I work as a stage hand, and I know what I am talking about. Homemade cases get ruined, every time. If you are a skilled woodworker, you MAY be able to build an acceptabe one, but the time, materials, and labor you would use to do so would easily be more than you would spend to by a good one from someone like Anvil, Slamhammer, or any of the hundreds of others out there. I am a skilled woodworker, and I would never do a road case myself.

And do not EVER buy the plastic ones. They fall apart after a year at most.

I am not planning to go on sttage with the material, so IO am still thinking of making one myself.

C7, I think I'll go wih the flightcase, so I'll make one with removable front and back so they can stay that way in my studio.

I'll post my results, just ike I will do with my acoustic screen:). Cheers!

They have reasonable prices and can do custom specs. It took me a while to find them online but, incase you didn't know they existed, Check it out. I have built a case before and I am not a skilled wood worker. It is now empty and fixing to get the axe by me!

Buy from a good, affordable manufacturer. Save yourself trouble.
