Hi again folks!

I have a 1680 and there is a track I have finished and would like to distribute on the web in MP3 format. I know the easiest way to make an Mp3 would be to write to Cd then make an mp3 with software that way but the thing is I dont have a Cd writer or any mixdown deck of any kind.

What I do have though is a SCSI card on my PC. Is there any way I can hook the 1680 direct to my PC to do this?

Transfer to PC to create mp3 file

You cannot transfer audio from the 1680 to your PC via SCSI (this is a highly sought after feature a lot of 1680 users want!), however if you have a soundcard of decent quality and it has S/PDIF ins/outs, you can record a stereo wav file of your finished song via digital output on the 1680, tweak/edit/master it on the PC, and then create an mp3 from it. That method is better than ripping from CD assuming your sondcard is good quality. Ripping has a tendency of producing unwanted artifacts, pops, clicks, etc.

If your soundcard is less than 24 bit, don't forget to dither when transfering.

And if your sound card does not have S/PDIF, you can hook up your 1680 though the anolog outs to the anolog in on your sound card. Don't have to worry about dithering. However sound quality will not be as good this way.

Right. I only have a very bog standard Soundbaster AWE 64 in my PC.

What kind of card would you recomment which has S/PDIF on it and for someone on a budget?
