making an analog mixer send midi-messages?

Is it possible to rebuild/rewire some buttns on a analog mixer to send midi-signals to like maybe trigger a sampler or analog recorder?

Always fancied the images on tv when you saw people using mixers to control tape recorders and trigger sounds..

Who can tell me more on how to do it if it's even possible?

I think what you are seeing is MTC (midi time code) por SMPTE time code written to a track, which can trigger other devices on playback. I used to do this all the time, particularly my sequencers.
