Here is some information I would like to share.
I received this directly from the tech. support center at M-Audio.
"First of all, for audio to work properly on Windows XP, you need to have Service Pack 1 installed, it is a free update from Windows that is an update to the operating system software. To check if you have this, go to your START MENU in the lower left, and then RIGHT CLICK on MY COMPUTER and select PROPERTIES from the list. This opens up a systems properties window and it will say what version of Windows you are running. On the 3rd line it will say Service Pack 1 if you have it. If you don't....
Go to http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp and make sure you get the most recent windows update (for XP its Service Pack 1...just go to that page and hit the green arrow in the middle of the screen and scan for updates. Then download and install any necessary updates.)
Second, here are the instructions for a clean uninstall and reinstall of the Delta Drivers.
1.Download the latest driver (5.10.00.29) AND the Delta Uninstaller from our web site to the Desktop. http://www.m-audio.com/support/driversearch.php
2.Extract the driver to a new or newly formatted floppy disk(just click on the driver icon and click Finish; it will automatically extract to the floppy).
3.Run the Delta Uninstaller and reboot the PC OR for a manual uninstall boot into Safe Mode(press F8 as the PC is booting) and remove any appearance of the Delta from Device Manager(it's under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers). Set up your system to "Show All Files"(Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder Options-View), and uncheck "Hide file extensions for known files types". Hit Apply and OK.
Go to Start-Search-Files or Folders.
Under More advanced options, check the boxes labelled:
Search Subfolders
Search System Folders
Search Hidden files
Search For:
*delta*.*
delteasi.dll
oem*.inf
Delete all files that are found for the Delta search(make sure that you don't delete anything unrelated to the Delta. For specific file names you can browse your installation CD or floppy) and all files for the other searches. For oem*.*, open each file. If it makes any reference to the Delta, delete it. Reboot the PC.
4.Windows should detect new hardware. When you come to the screen that asks you where you want Windows to search for the new driver, direct the search to the floppy, and follow the Add New Hardware Wizard through to the end. Your driver should now be installed!
You must have speakers connected to the first and second output of the Delta interface in order to hear any sound.
Here are instructions for dialing in the Delta Control Panel:
Open up the Delta Control Panel. In the Monitor/Mixer tab, make sure all the faders are all the way up to 0dbs, and make sure nothing is muted or on solo. Also, make sure you check stereo link on all the tracks. Go to the patchbay/router tab. Make sure monitor/mixer is selected in the far left and far right columns. Then go to the hardware settings. Make sure Internal Xtal is selected for your midi clock, check 44100 is selected for your sample rate (or whatever rate you are using), and make sure the boxes Rate Locked and Reset Rate When Idle are NOT selected. Your buffer size will be at 384 as the default, if you are experiencing pops or clicks, distortion or digital drop out you should increase this, either to 512 or maybe even 1024. You should then save these settings as Default or My Studio or whatever you would like to call them, so you can pull them back up in case you need to.
Then, please see the Windows Sound and Multimedia Device Manager. START--> SETTINGS --> CONTROL PANEL --> Multimedia and Sound (or something to that effect). See that under the Audio tab, the M-audio device is selected as the preferred playback and recording device."
Hope this will help some of you!!
