I like it! Mix sounds really good. The vocals remind me of Eric Clapton a little. Nice job.

Hey Gerry... Sounds great, as usual. This mix, however, sounds like the drum track is just slightly behind the rest of the instruments, and it gives the song kind of a "trudging" or "lagging" feel to it.

If ya can, try nudging the drum track forward about 100 msecs. That'd work wonders.

Everything else sounds wonderful!

Cool song. I really like the vocal melody over the guitar chords, as well as the overall arrangement. My only nit is that for a rocker it's mixed a little politely. I'd like to hear more aggressive use of compression, but that's just me. Can't argue with the raw material though, real nice tune

I just nudged the drums forward - they seem to line up okay with the original midi drums when I play them together. Let me know if it still sounds like it's lagging, I can nudge further if you think it needs it.

Sounds fabulous. 100% better. Great job.

Great performance from all of you guys and a sweet tune!
I think the drums could use a bit more thump, not too much and maybe a little more highs on the snare, but that's just taste. I really like it the way it is and your voice is wonderful, Gerry.

Wow guys--I really like this one. The mix is nice and full, but it's not dense or crowded--everything's got it's own space.

The performances are great. Gerry, I always like your songs and your singing, but this one hits a real spot for me--great groove.

PoeticIntensity--the drumming is perfect. Really nice playing and recording.

Wow. Thanks for the compliment. Been working on recording drums for almost a year now. Thanks to this group, I'm a heckuva lot better than I was, for sure.

Thanks again. Means a lot comin' from you. If ya ever need drums, let me know.

I'm listening on head phones, so...

Good job guys. To my ears the mix sounds great, though it does seem like the drums could come a bit more out front....maybe eq would do the trick?..can't say, i'm a knube.

Very consistent writing and singing...style wise...Ido. I always enjoy listening to your posts.

I've always dug this song - the crunchy smooth guitars & melody are jsut IT. Mike bass playing is a great thing to hear in this context - he's quite inventive and you've captured & shaped a terrific tone for him.
PI's playing & recorded sound is very sympathetic to the song. PI - you've done good & played hard. Bring real skins & lids to Gerry's songs has been one of life's essentials & you've done a grand job thus far.

Thanks Joey, WhiteStrat, Mick Doobie, Ray and Jason for the drums...
I've stopped using a master bus compression like I used to with my ADAT mixes. The mixes tend to be a lot more open and clear. I have to master these at some point - that should ruin them completely...lol....:laughings:

I'm kinda on the same bus as Bulls....it's a pretty slick mix...maybe just hair too slick. Globally, it needs some bite in the upper mids to me....maybe around 1.8k or so just to put a little edge on it. But, that's pickin' nits. The drum mix is pretty sweet...love the tone on the toms. Well done! I'd like some snap to the snare as well, but the mix works as is.

Guitar and vox are very well tracked. Nice with good definition...kinda has an old Credence feel to it...I dig. The tune's cryin' for backing vox.

Well done all.

Love this kind of straight ahead rock. Sounds really great. You have a live band feel going which I'd give high marks for. I think it needs some keys. Maybe a touch of B3. Nothing too over the top. Nice one guys!!:cool::cool:

Can I get a download of this? I wouldn't mind adding it to my list of songs for my studio. I like to put on some good music when I'm puttering about the studio and this has that upbeat feel that I like. :D

Hey bruddah...

I like your work, but this and the other recordings of yours I've listened to are just shy of kickin' me.

So I just spent some time listening to Unchain my Heart...some SRV..and some Clapton stuff to figure out why.

Thing one.

The way you sing...sometimes you sing a multi-syllable word, and punch some part, and de-emphasize other parts of the same word. Sometimes the endings are real low , or you run out of breath.
The way to homoginize might be to get into enveloping the vox track, and levelling up those lost syllables. Or, when you sing, try to take fuller breaths, and sustain the word endings. One of the things I noted A/B-ing is that the vocals are much more out front, smoother, and/or wicked sung from the guts. The Clapton and SRV stuff has the vox way out front.

Two...the drums are popping on the sampled records. Your drums sound boxy to me. Like they were recorded in a dead room or something. The snare and bass aren't 'there'....popping

Three. Your bass sound is way heavy in the bottom. I can feel it more than hear it sometimes. There's not a lot of oomph happening between the bass drum and bass guitar.

Four. The performances sound like you and the fellers are rehearsing in a garage at noon. Like the guitar parts ...that F# #9 chord at 45 seconds....theres no swagger and dig to it...played kinda limp. That should really sear the ears. Part of it is your guitar sound, I think. No edge or distortion.

Overall, it doesn't sound like you guys are in the mood to play.

The texture is level and tame. No bite to the solo sound.

The guitar rythm parts are even and strummy....and constant fabric of sound, with not much bang, change, or effective lickkage. I can hear the light pick strumming gracefully and carefully over the strings.

The tune is solid. But the playing is restrained. And the recorded sounds don't gel.

Sorry to run contrary to everybody else. Maybe it's just me; but it's been bugging me that I'm the only one hearing the deficits......and I hope you consider them. This song should kick ass. To me, it doesn't.

Performances: tap the keg....get dangerous.

Recording: de-mook the bass guitar. Is that an old Acoustic 'refrigerator' folded enclosure...bass played with a pick?

do something with the papery drums

git the guitar amp [is it transistor?]into distortion territory; chop at that MF'er like you mean it. And add some bluesy bendy signature fills between vocal parts...it's sometimes tedious waiting through strumming with no 'feature' thang....like in the first 8 seconds over the F#. Some searing likkage there would hook a listener right off the bat. It's very tame...for blues. If you want to keep the instrumentation minimalized, the bass is gonna need more mids to 'stand in' for the guitar while you kiss the sky.

sing like you're impressing that blond in the front row...big breath...and even out the missing syllables with platform voodoo.

I love you, man. Gotta be honest. You need to do some referencing on punch, ambience, and sounds, I think, to get it to the level of kick-ass awsome.

I liked it, but it sounded generic. It sounds great recording wise. I have to agree with Jeff it's missing something, but not too much. It's fine how it is, but think it's missing some kind of spice to it. Some of the other songs I heard sounded like you guys owned it. This one just sounds like some kind of clone.

Thanks Jeff and Phil for the thorough comments - they give me lots of ideas to think about. This song's pretty much a done deal - drums from poeticintensity (Jason) were the last thing I wanted to add to this piece. I'll keep your recommendations for future songs that I write. Thanks! :):D:):D
