Major Feedback Problem

I just got a brand new setupt to record on my new computer. It consists of a condenser mic going through a pre-amp (Bellari MP105 Tube amp) I have not purchased any kind of an audio interface yet, so I am trying to input the pre-amp to my sound card's line input port. However I am getting feedback, a kind of buzz whenever the pre-amp is plugged into the port. Even when the pre-amp is turned off, I get the buzz. The sound from the mic makes it into the port (I can record myself), but there is always a constant buzz. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? I am thinking it is something with my sound card that is causing the problem, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
 
I can only suggest you get something a little more road worthy for the recording job. Im sure a new card was on the list anyway...right ?
Those SB's get a little funny when you start plugging it up with progear. not worthy of a quality job.
 
Audio Interface

Can anyone suggest a good, inexpensive sound card for me? I don't need anything too fancy, just something that will work. Thanks again for the help.
 
Soundblaster is FAR from the best but it should at least function for you. The line input on that card is on a stereo mini plug, tip is one side or channel, the ring is the other and sleeve common ground. As long as your plumbing matchs up with this and in the windows mixer you only have the line input (not the mic input) enabled, you should be able to get very usable results. Not fantastic but very usable.
 
Problem fixed

I fixed the feedback problem. I checked the 1/4'' to 1/8'' cable I was using and realized that it is a stereo cable. I guess the second band was making contact with somthing inside the preamp, and creating a buzz. So I picked up a mono cable, and it works fine now.
