I havn't had any trouble with mics smelling, but I bought a desk for my studio the other day that gives me a headache everytime I walk in. It works so well though, it's worth the pain!

Thats from the chemicals used to bond the particle board its made from. Some people are very sensitive to it. I suspect the mic smell is from the foam, again the chemicals used to make it. It's probably a new batch of foam. Let it air out, it'll be fine.
