Anyone ever try a mailing campaign - like with post cards - sent out to neigborhoods where "your fan base" lives . . .telling them . . .

1) your website
2) store to buy your cd
3) upcoming event
4) merchandise . . . ???

If so, any good responses?

I don't necessarily know that I'd do that. It sounds good on paper, but how often do you get things in the mail, look at them for 2 seconds, then throw them away?

It's probably the same with sticking fliers on cars. I'm sure you'd get a few fans that way, but for the most part, I think people just glance at them.

ok. thanks for the feedback . . . im just considering it . . . wanna make sure i knock down every possible avenue . . .

It's a good idea, though. The main issue I see, is that you'd have to be extremely targeted towards specific people. And you'd have to make the packaging as intriguing as possible, so that people open it.

What you could probably do is find out where your fan base is within those neighborhoods, and target those people specifically.

Maybe you could print up 8 1/2 x 11" fliers and put them in store windows in those neighborhoods? Might cost about the same (maybe a little less, depending on postage).

i feel u. im def. gon do somthin wit this idea . . . neighborhood marketing is def. on my list!

Try your same Idea with email! It's cheaper and far more effective. Start by adding anyone you think might be interested in your music friends, family, co-workers etc... place a few bulletins on your myspace saying your starting a fan club and all they need to do is give you there email address. Then use that as your base try to make it grow by at least 10 -20 people every week. Then send them little stuff to keep them interested in you while you get that cd together. Keeping those folks in the know on your list will make them more likely to buy your cd if they are truly interested in you.

Man you might want to check out this book:
