Anyone here tried this program? I'm skeptical of Magix products but thought I'd ask anyway.

OK, I'll go first then with my recommendations.

I can't speak of Magix Music Studio, but their Samplitude software is pretty darn great. I don't think the company has a bad reputation. Looks like the Music Studio offers 64 tracks, which is pretty good. Actually, it looks to have some pretty impressive features for the price (VST AND DirectX plugin support, 32 bit float support, etc). The freeze feature is cool and works well in the Samplitude product. Other products have that simliar funtionality as well.

There are other software options in about the same price range as Music Studio 2005 as well. If you're curious, let me know.

Just curious, why are you sceptical about Magix?

ricklh. re: magix music sudio.
i have the version before 2005.
heres my comments...briefly.....
1. even one of the directories on my hard drive says samplitude.
2. ive thrown it at friends awfull computer systems to test it including the worst terrible on board sound cards they have with lousy latency and still the tracks line up. which impressed the heck out of me.
3. the mixer layout is wonderfull imho. very intuitive.
as is the ease of punching in which is superb.
note carefully the pc kbd shortcuts. all i do to record is click on the blank track and then hit one pc kbd key and i'm recording.
the effects alone i could spend a day talking about. youll just have to try them.
4. some TIPS to make life easier. make sure you make your own custom template you can use in each song. if you click on the track object this is very important - you must tell it whether a mono track or a stereo track.
note: dont record mono audio to a stereo track. you record mono to a mono track. this is a simple mistake a lot of new users make.
i could go on . but as this is a bbs....
just try the demo for yourself and make up your own mind.
the ONLY NEGATIVE is the lack of midi integration within audio studio.
you have to go into midi studio for that. which i find a tad irksome.
also the midi features while excellent , i find the way of working not as logical
as my other favorite sequencer lest someone jumps on me.
(just search the threads under my name).
but in my opinion if what you want to do is record live audio to your daw.
its superb FOR THE MONEY. also check out carefully some of the para eq touches (sweep), and the master section of the mixer. and the way one can
cut and paste audio easily, as well a major PLUS is the track automation at this price level. but make your own decision.
it might help to know a list of features your looking for in a sequencer.

rick. i didnt mention a whole host of darn features. its THAT IMPRESSIVE.
but just one of many thousands of features. lets say you have recorded a great guitar solo. but the end of it has a bad note. just click on the object and you will see some little handles appear. you drag these with the mouse to fade out. or you could hilite and cut with the scissors. sort of greyish icon up the top of the display. at least it is in my version.
rick - ive only scratched the surface of what i consider a great value for the money.
peace.

The Midi studio part is actually Logic Audio, and its workings stump many.

The Audio Studio part (Samplitude) is now available seperately, maybe a wiser choice if you don't need midi.

I can't comment on MMSD2005, but I did buy MMSD2004 and found it to be okay, it is like getting Samplitude "Lite", my only real beef with 2004 deluxe was that while they touted the "new" 24 bit support both on the website and on the box, the program could only access your soundcard at 16 bit, so you could import 24 bit audio files, but you could only hear them at 16 bit, and you could not record audio at 24 bit, strictly 16 bit recording/playback, there was no warning ANYWHERE as to this intentional limitation of the software, I fully expected true 24 bit ability.

When I inquired to Magix support about this issue, I was told that if I wanted to record/playback at 24 bit I should buy Samplitude.
