I really like the idea of building my monitors, http://www.madisound.com/ar_com.html but I can't match an amp to it. Anyone have suggestions? I really would like to stay in the 300 range for the amp. Thanks

Have a look at some of the better HI-FI power amps. They are usually cooled without fans and generally use much better parts than the cheap so called Studio amps.
The Rotel range is very good value, reliable and act as a "peice of wire with gain" which is what you want.
Try to find a good one second-hand , many are now going cheap as people upgrade to 5.1.
