Currently, I use a Behringer 2004A for my mic pres. I have been looking into some better pres. Today..i found a mackie 1202 VLS pro for $175. Think ill notice a differance? I would like to have 6 to 8 channels. Im just wondering if this is the best deal for the money because i know that cant get anything any better than the behringer with the same number of channels at that price.
thanks
Jeremy

No, you won't notice a difference, unless you have a $100,000 monitoring setup and $100,000 ears.

Behringers are pretty much knock-offs of Mackies. Mackies are better, but not massively so. If you want to notice a REAL difference, move up to a truly good set of preamps. Keep an eye out for the Mackie Onyx, for example. Other reasonable choices are the Focusrite Octopre and all the other usual pres talked about around here.

soundcraft pres are said to be better than the mackie and behringer pres.....around the same price range as behringer....you might want to look into Yamaha MG series.

do you think id be better off with the MG pres than the mackie? Again, the mackie is only gonna cost me $175. I guess my question is, could I spend $175 elsewhere and still get 4 pres as good as or better than the mackie?

Behringer ada8000 has 8 pres on it w/ direct outs & ADAT. Not a bad little unit for $230.

I already have a behringer though not the ADA8000. I have a 2004A. I dont think i want to put any more money into another behringer. Im also not really looking for another mixer, just better pre's. The mackie just caught my eye because of the price tag and if the pre's are noticibaly better than the behringer, then I will get it.

I have a Yamaha MG 12/4 mixer and the pres on it are quite nice for the money.
