I recently bought a Delta 66 card. I was gonna get the omni package when I bought the card but Mars Music near me didn't have it. Soooo, I bought just the Delta 66. My question is should I go ahead gt the Omni I/O or will the Macke 808M powered mixer I am gonna buy do the job?

Chunk O Coal,

I bought the Omni studio over a year ago and have never, ever needed to use a mixer (Mackie or otherwise). This, of course is completely dependant on what you intend to do with the Delta.

If you are planning on recording a band all in one pass or your projects require more than 6 in's then think about a mixer. If you are recording yourself at home, the Delta in combo with the Omni is almost impossible to beat. Especially for the price.

Check out the latest issue of Recording magazine (April 2002) for a decent review.

Whether you want the omni might also depend on what type or preamp you plan to use. The omni has a built in solid state so-so preamp with phantom power. If you plan on using a separate tube preamp, etc., the standard break-out box should suffice.

Jim,

Good point and one I forgot to mention. I just ordered the Mindprint Envoice to integrate with my Omni Studio setup. I will be using the Envoice primarily for my voice (I run a digital media/voiceover company).

The Envoice has SPDIF in/out so I will be bypassing the Omni for voiceover but for the rest of my needs (guitars, basses, CD players, remixing etc etc) the Omni is an excellent interface that brings everything together (in one half rack space I might add)

Cheers,
