The features of new mackie onyx has got me thinking about selling the 1402 I use for live gigs and picking up the 1220 and firewire card and recording direct to my mac instead of spending a lot of money on studios.
I've got a few questions though. Are the firewire I/Os on the mac itself able to handle the input, or do I need to get some kind of card or outboard system? (Other threads mentioned something about an MOTU I/O) Any software recommendations? I usually use Bias Peak, but it only handles two tracks at a time.
My setup is: two to four drum machine/sampler tracks, two tracks of loops from echoplexes and one or two separate channels of guitar. Vocals go on later. Any help would sure be appreciated.
