hello everyone,

i was condering buying the Phonic Helix but its been getting shaky reviews.

Then i looked into the Mackie ONyx 1620 and it seems awsome from all the reviews except thats its all pre-fader and pre-eq. I'm new to the computer recording world, so i was wondering if anybody can help me out to decide.

Am i going to be able to produce good sound by doing ALL my eq and effects in my DAW(Cubase and/or Tracktion)? People say that this mixer is useless for home recording, but i just want to make sure because this mixer is a big bang for your buck.

I can only imagine its going to be difficult to record drum tracks without knowing what its going to sound like on the computer afterword!

HOpefullly somebody out here has done this firewire setup with this mixer or another into a DAW or knows what problems i will face.

*I don't understand why people would complain because all the Firepod does is the same thing w/ less options for around the same price ...getting the clean unaffected unn-eq'd sound into your DAW via Firewire. Or am i wrong?

Im sure you will do fine. Who cares what people say...there is a throng of people fiercely devoted to outboard eq/comps, etc...but until they pay your bills or wear your ears, F em. The onyx has been getting very good reviews.
FWIW, I always do everything ITB. Sounds phenomenal to me and my clients, so thats all that matters.(granted it is classical location recording ,but same principle) if you practice in regards to mic placement and selection...youll find that you can do a lot of "eq" merely by how you set up.

so yeah man...go for it.
