Easy solution. Find a store, brick or online, that allows you to return without penalty, and order your top 2-3 choices. Put them through the paces in your own space. I predict that one of them will speak to you clearly and that it's hard to say which one that will be. I did the same with 3 models years ago and have always considered the bit of extra time and expense very well spent. Specs and others' opinions may be a good starting point, but that's about all IMHO.

yea.. except i can order a few of them at less than 1/2 price at a place where they are non-returnable.

I ordered the Yamaha HS80Ms for 280. I'll see how they are and let everyone know.

Where in the world can you buy those monitors at those prices?????

either you know someone who knows someone whos cousins with someone who can get them for you at that price or either you tought that was the price for 2 and now you feel dumb....but if you got a somewhat secret website why not share it and help all of us spend less money just like some of us helped you make a decision? :)lol

I'd love to share it, but you wouldn't be able to order from it anyway. its based on employee discounts and you need a manager signoff to order anything.

Where is the followup on the purchase? How do you like what you ordered?

Well I got the Yamaha HS80Ms, and I really love them. Granted I haven't had extensive use with my other options, but they are far superior to what I had been using, and I have been able to make some great mixes with them.

Nope. I work at music&arts, a sister company of guitar center, musicians friend, woodwind brasswind, and music123. Were all owned by BAIN Inc. and all have access to the website. It's not something anyone else can get onto though. You need an authorized employee number and password just to create an account. sorry :(

Yeah I figured that out, a friend of mine and an apprentice at the studio both work at GC and they get stuff all of the time at crazy prices through that site. Just goes to show what the mark up is huh!

So what's your password then? :D

You really liking the Yamaha right? They are good.

yea pretty much anything you buy is made for less than half of what you pay. its rediculous. I just bought a blue kiwi for 900 and a couple other blue mics for less than half price too :D

yea the yamahas are great. id definately recommend them to anyone looking in that price range.

Kinda makes one want to work at any of those places just for those perks!

So you have a full studio set up?

I really like the KRK speakers. My JBL 4311WX were busted for 20 years and I just fixed them and
wow what a sound they put out !!!!!!!!

Yea I have a home studio set up. Right now I'm in a phase of "out with the old in with the new" so my racks are looking pretty bare, but I'm working on getting new mic pres and compressors right now.

secret website?
I worked at musicians friend call center(SLC), and when every one did orders we would give our team leader the MF part number and she would tell you how much we can get them for.

But the only way to order was through filling out a sheet at work, that you would give to your supervisor. Then when someone from the big room approves, then they would come and get the payment info. But I had to pay tax and shipping no matter what, cause MF ain't paying for it.

So I guess if your way up on the food chain, then you might have access to something, but I am friends with some high ups who have worked there for years, and I never heard of no website.

If it is true then you would have access to the account to which your company buys directly. Cause thats where our worker orders come from, from the manufacturer, thats why we get the discount. But I know this is still the same, cause I ordered some equipment back in December through a friend who still works there and I went through the same process like when I worked there.

But the prices you did say were extremely close to the price of a single speaker. So I am not surprised people though otherwise. But this webiste, it must just be a Music&Arts thing.

After looking into it, I found that it is only for Guitar Center and Music&Arts. We also have the sheet we need to fill out and have signed by a supervisor, but this website often has lower discounts, because it isn't purchasing through the company accounts, it is actually direct from the maker, often at prices lower than cost(what the retailer gets it for)
