mackie fw card as a standalone interface?

How cool would that be? The converters must be on the firewire addon for that to work, obviously. You'd still need preampage and presumably phantom power in most cases but you could hook it up to a patchbay or any other mixer too. I'm half tempted to try it.

yeah....seems the onyx mixer only send the 16 direct out and a main mix to the fw card, and the card will do all conversion and send the signal to the computer via firewire.......

so if we can find a power supply to the card, we can use any preamp or direct out from any mixer.
