For basic PC recording, most of the time, all you need from external mixer is good preamps (which Mackie's preamp is one in the category ) and the ability to route your signal in and out of your PC without having to screw often with your cables. You may want to look if this mixer has at leat 2 preamps, and 2 aux buses for your convenience. Route the aux buses to your soundcard's line in, and line out back to tour mixer. Then you can listen to your music with headphone/monitor hooked to your mixer's main out. Make sure you close aux buses send of your "PC to mixer's" channel all the way down to avoid feedback
