Mackie Control Universal question

After some very informative responses from the poeple on this board, I think that I am going to go ahead a buy a Mackie Control Universal with 2 expanders... but I (of course) have a couple questions. My current setup includes a regular PC running Cubase SX 2.2 and an aardvark Q10. How exactly would i set up the Control Universal with the 2 expanders? I know that it is a midi device, but would I hook it up to the MIDI I/O of the Q10? I also read somewhere that the Expanders also needed a Midi I/O. How would I go about setting that up with the Q10 if it only has one set of Midi I/O's? Isn't it also possible to bank through the channels? So instead of needing 2 expanders to total 24 tracks, i could just use the single control universal and use 3 seperate banks of the 8 channels?

The design rationale of the Mackie Control Universal is intentionally flexible enough to be used either way --- either with or without expanders. You are quite right that with one unit you can 'bank through the channels'. The reason Mackie has put the expanders out there is for those operators who would rather be able to just grab a fader rather than push a button and grab a fader...

If it was me, I wouldn't mind getting used to working either way. But YMMV.

if you needed more midi imputs, maybe you could get a cheap MIDI/USB device? i think m-audio has some decent ones

Regarding the expanders:

By all means buy them if you've got the cash. I didn't, but after getting used to bank switching, I'm glad I didn't.

Bank switching will let you view as many tracks as you have in a project. Just not all at once.

Just my 2¢...
