Hey guys..
I have a chance to pick up Mackie 1604 for 1000 canadian.
He is giving me the light and some other stuff with it too..
These are the only things im worried about:
its an older Mackie board, will this change the sound?
It's in really good condition though.
Dont older mackie boards have different MIC pre's?

should I be concerned about anything?

thanks

I'm not sure how much 1000 Canadian is in US dollars, but an older Mackie board may not (in today's time) be such a great deal. The preamps were changed from just "1604" to "vlz" then "vlz pro". The Mackie pres are too good now to go back...buy something current or save if that's all the money you have.

The only reason why I would buy older gear is if it's a collectors item, that is "high-end"...(e.g. Neve, Focusrite, Universal Audio, Neumann, vintage AKG, Elam...you get the idea). Mackies are well built, but they're a dime a dozen. The newer ones are noticeably better than the old. There's no great "sound" that you'll get from the old ones that the new ones couldn't do better.

Buy new.

1000 canadian is only like 750 usd right? well at full-compass, you can get a vlz pro for 869. And if you offer first, and say someone else will sell it to you for 830, say it's @ Capital Communications, they will actually bite. It's worth the extra 80 bucks I think.
