macbook pro for recording

Hi guys,

Yes, i've read all the guides, and googled my heart away over the past few days before writing this.

I've been close to buying an Mbox 3 or RME fireface for some home recording, however got scared off as atm I've got an asus k52 laptop which is great however everything i'm reading seems to point to 'asking for trouble' in recording with a notebook. Through my workplace I can get a longterm (and very cheap) loan on a macbook pro - i5 mc700x/a ...... Just wondering if Macs and Mbox's/other interfaces are usually the fairytale that I hope it will be in terms of reliability, no compatibility issues (still not sure if i'll go USB or firewire), and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Macbook Pro's for recording? And if so, I'd be tracking in the same room as it so would love to know if anyones experienced any noise issues or if there's workarounds available...

Hi,
I've been tracking with my i5 mac book pro lately.

I've gotta say, It's a lot more powerful than I thought it would be.
I'm up to about 30 tracks with plenty of vsts and a few softsynths but it's still recording away at low latency.

The only thing is when the fans kick in, they REALLY kick in.

Thankfully that's only started happening during vocal tracking where it's less critical but if I was doing more acoustic guitar it'd be a problem.

That's my only gripe. Other than that it's been perfect using presonus firestudio mobile, PT9 and waves.
No crashes, nothing like that.

I use my Macbook Pro, Reaper, & a Focusrite Pro 40 for location recording. Never (and I mean never) had any issues. So far it handles everything I throw at it.
