Hello,

I'm soon getting a G4 (should be in next week) and I am looking for a low cost soundcard solution.

I would like something with at least 2 inputs (XLR and 1/4" support) and MIDI support.

My band has a TASCAM US-122 which is pretty good for what I need, but I was wondering if I could get anything better for a similar or better price.

Suggestions?

Yeah ..... If it's a Powerbook, I'd look into a FireWire Interface. Your budget will be the main factor.

-Edit- As far as the similar price or better .... I doubt it.

No, it's a desktop Power Mac G4, so I have the option for PCI, FireWire, and USB.

FireWire is too expensive overall, so I'm between PCI and USB. These are the best options out there that I've seen (and by looking at zSounds), things I could consider buying and are within my max price limit. Of course, more ins are good, but there are other options to weigh.

PCI Cards/Boxes (M-Audio):

Audiophile 2496 -- 99.95 2 in 2 out MIDI No Mic pres
Delta 44 -- 149.95 - 4 in 4 out No MIDI listed
Audiophile 192 -- 179.95 - 2 in 4 out?
Delta 66 -- 189.95 - 6 in 6 out No MIDI listed
Delta 1010LT -- 229.95 10 in 10 out, MIDI, Mic pres (Best PCI Option)

USB Interfaces:

M-Audio MobilePre 2x2 -- 149.95 - 2 Mic or 2 Line Preamps No MIDI
TASCAM US-122 -- 199.95 - Well, I know this is pretty good
TASCAM US-244 -- 199.95 - This is even better! Has control slider options too. (Best USB option)
M-Audio Audiophile USB - 199.95 - 2 Mic Pre, XLR & Line, MIDI, Simliar to the US-122.

The problem is this is, the PCI Cards have a lot of inputs, but no preamps/XLR except on the Delta 1010. The USB devices I've mentioned have mic preamps and are all about the same.

...So now I'm stuck between the Delta 1010 and the US-244... 10 inputs or control sliders... I can't decide.
