i was curious about protools 3, was told it was really nice for mac and wanted to know what is its capabilities and price are compared with others like cubase, cakewalk, etc for pc.

ProTools is supposed to be the Top computer recording tool, and of course it is on the Mac. I suppose you can find an old version for a good price, but the newer versions cost several 'K' notes. I know that one of their packages cost $10,000. There is a big price diference. Cakewalk and Cubase for the PC only run a couple hundred dollars.

yeah thats sounds out of my price range, is there any programs which can do what protools does, i heard that cakewalk and cubase are good but can thy curve and create sounds like protools, or there a program that can do near what protools does. i need a program that will not only reord but will allow me to do anything i want to make a sound, any suggestions

I am not sure of what all ProTools does, but I use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 for recording and Sound Fourge 4.5 for editing. I can do just about everything that I can think of with these tools. I have not hit any walls yet.
