Mac G5 vs Soundcard

Hey!

I'm used to have a Delta 1010-LT Soundcard in my Windows-pc. What if i change to a Mac G5? How can it be done to combine those?

I wonder because from what I know, the looks of a G5 differ so much from a pc, that it makes me think I cannot possibly stick a soundcard in it...
 
I'm using 3 1010s to interface my mixer and I know that their PCI-X compatibal which is the type of card used in Powermacs.

Only older Macs use PCI-X. The last generation of PowerMac G5s use PCI Express (PCIe) which isn't compatible with PCI cards at all. Ditto for the current Intel-based Mac hardware (Mac Pro).

My advice would be to sell the 1010LT and upgrade to a MOTU FireWire interface. You'll be happier with the sound quality (the 1010LT doesn't get along with the power supply noise of the first generation of G5s), and the MOTU drivers are better, too. :)

Anyway, if you get a G5 to use with the 1010LT, you absolutely must make sure it is neither the first generation (because of the PSU noise problem) nor the last generation (because it is incompatible).

I have a first generation G5 PPC with a Delta 1010lt . It has worked perfectly without noise or other aberrations.. It seems to get along with my power supply just fine. My Delta came ready for PCI-X if that makes a difference.

It might. They might have improved the grounding in the ones that came PCI-X-ready. The little notch that they dremel to make room for the extra plastic pin in the slot goes right through two ground pins on either side of the board, IIRC.

It also may make a difference which power supply model you got. The top model (dual 2.0 GHz) used a different power supply that had problems for me. I believe they eventually made changes late in the manufacturing run, but way too late for my machine. I think Apple offers a replacement for anyone who screams about it, but it's enough of a pain for me to suggest avoiding the first generation if you can. The difference in price between generations is minimal enough that it's worth the extra few bucks to not have to worry about it. :)

Yeah you can run up to 4 together. The only complaint I have is that I didn't buget for a wordclock but that'll be in my next order in the spring.
