M3700 WxLxH dimensions

Hello fellow analog users. Does anyone have a Tascam 3500 or 3700 that they could perhaps provide dimensions for. I'll be modifying my console soon, and since I havn't purchased mine yet, I have nothing to go by. I have a complete Autocad file with sections and details that I use to modify my plan with. But without dimensions I can't do anything real.

Hmmmm, whats happened to the Tascam forum? Musta got pissed about the people complaining in the digital forums:D Read a post from a guy who was so mad he was ready to sell his DM-24's,

I only have dimensions on the M3500 but, the size should be similar on the 3700.

24 frame version;

W; 44.1"/ H; 12" / D; 37.5" Weight 133 lbs

32 frame version;

W; 53.6" / H; 12" / D; 37.5" Weight 155 lbs

Power supply unit;

W; 19" / H; 5.7" / D; 14.6" Weight 30 lbs

Sorry but no info on stand but, it looks like it's around 26" approx.

The Font to the rescue again:D Thanks a mill GFM. I don't need the stand. I'm modifying the console that I built for the 312's to fit the 3700. Of course, I still have to find one and purchase it, but I'll bide my time. No rush. Just moved in and have a ton of shit to do before I can even work on my room. You know, "honey can you do this" stuff. :rolleyes: Got to make wifey happy first. THEN, I can concentrate on the studio stuff.
I would think the 3500 would be the same dimensions. So I'll go with these. Thanks again.

A married band-mate of mine has been trying to do that for 10 years and in all that time she has barely let him buy new strings for his guitar!!

Five times a year she lets him come over to my place to record with me.

Man o man does that sound familiar. My ex was the same way. No problem now.
I had a band mate who had a girlfriend who was WAY out of control. He finally took an opportunity to finish it. On stage. He introduced his wife to the audience and told her to come to the stage. As she walked up to climb on stage, he bent over as if to kiss her. Instead, he reached down as if to caress her head, but instead of kissing her, he coughed up a big lougee, and spit it on top of her head. Right in front of the audience. Needless to say, she went screaming out of the club, never to return.:D How did Simon put it? "Sneak out the back jack?" How bout "Spit in her face Jace" Ha!

I guess you'll be reupholstering the arm rest on it?

Congrats Rick. I bet you're going to love it. I like mine a LOT. The tape returns are unbalanced but I don't fnid a problem with that. Every channel has two faders, One line and one tape and with the flip function, your tape or line can be assigned to the master fader for that channel (which gives it EQ capability). You'll have essentially 64+ line inputs. That's a boat load of gozintas.

Hello Ghost. Well, I checked on the net for a "3600", which from what I gather really existed. Some kind of difference between the VCA's . Supposedly, the 3700 VCA's were noisier. But who really knows. All I know is...YAHOOEEEEE!! :D

The tape returns are unbalanced but I don't fnid a problem with that.

Thats cool. The MSR's are unbalanced IN and OUT. Which has me a little concerned about the 8 buss outputs on the mixer. Are there any unbalanced outs? Although I'll probably use direct outs instead of busses. Shit, its been so long since I plugged anything in I've probably forgot what a fader does. :D

And now for the dreaded trip to LA. I spend all day yesterday doing things to help my wife while I'm gone. Split enough wood and kindling for a week. We only use a wood stove for heat and man its been REALLY cold here. Snowed four days ago and its still on the ground...frozen. :eek: 15 degrees when I got up while ago. YIKES! I didn't bargain for this on the coast of Oregon. :D And then I did the car maintenence thingy. I'm driving my father in laws small Toyota pickup to save on gas. This is about a 1800 mile round trip. Thank god its clear weather right now. The Siskou mountains are a mofo when covered with snow. The first grade is 6% for seven miles...uphill.
But then its pretty much down hill from there into California and the Sacramento Valley. Then its down the valley for about 600 miles of boring straight hiway 5 to LA. I'll stop in Sacramento overnight to visit my folks. Then comes the mofo trip. Straight down to LA and back to Oregon in ONE TRIP!!! :eek: I gotta be back at work tuesday morning. GAK! :( I'll probably be so burned out I won't recover for a week. Sheeeeezus, the things we do for this freakin hobby. ;)

Actually Ghost, I'm going to remove the existing armrest to fit it in my console. It has a full length(104") padded armrest already. As it is, I checked the dimensions you gave me on the 32 channel model, which is why I reopened this thread.
CRAP! This thing is HUGE! The depth and hieght are the real problem. Thank god my DIY console is easily modified as every structural member is heavy steel. I'll simply weld some extension brackets to move the "hood" back 6" and up 4". Heres a section drawing I did using basic dimensions. Fuck. Compared to my old Studiomaster(red dotted line) this thing looks incredibly big. Heres a pic to show what the 3600 is going in. These are old pics and I've done a lot to it since then. Lots of LED's, 2 new flatscreen monitors and all kinds of little doodads to trick it out. The mixer will complete it. Cool. Anyway, time to leave for LA now. Check out my "mod" thread next week. m3600...that's a new term I hadn't heard before. I took a look at a few google discussions that ended up typos ..where folks posted m3600, but were actually talking about m3500s. Same with a few m3600 discussions that end up being about the 3700. The ebay listing lists the item at the top as a 3500, then shows a pic and descrip of a 3700...but calling it a 3600 in the main blurb. How's that for a bunch of confusion. The logo to the right of the two mechanical vu's will tell the story...too small to read in the ebay ad pic.

As to the armrest, I've had to replace the covering and pad a few times on both 3700s. The studio cats (real cats, not cool musicians), love Tascam armrests for scratching posts.

I use car upholstery places, which works very well and is not expensive. On the most recent re-cover job, I had them add a bunch more padding and a nice flat black vinyl that matches the consoles' other black features. Really comfortable compared to that flimsy paste-on vinyl covering you get with the stock consoles.

One thing about the armrest removal.....after you take off the two end cheeks and the 20 or so screws to remove it, you'll notice the upper area with the padding, is actually part of what holds the lower area (headphone/footswitch jack mechanism) together. In other words, when you remove the armrest, you still have the lower part of the console...plus aluminum webbing, wiring, and the bottom plate of the console...sticking out. With the armrest removed, the lower part of the console in front sort of just dangles... which may require a bit of juggling to fit the whole console into a bigger enclosure.
 
Well, I made it. 1600 miles in four days. I'm wiped out. The mixer is still in the truck...all fucking 200 lbs of it :eek: This trip was...lets just say ...A MIND BLOWER...traffic, especially asshole Cadilac SUV drivers :mad: , trucks, snow, LA, family, friends, EBAY, vehicles, and numerous other eye openers. Went through a mind boggleing freak snow strom and got stuck overnight in Yreka California. Talk about frying your nerves. But all is well. Pics and story to follow. Time for bed. Later guys. BTW, the mixer is fucking AWSOME!! :D

Wiring hell. I'm just gonna stare at it for a few weeks. :D But first, I have to unload it and get it up to my UPSTAIRS studio. :eek: Thanks for the comments Track.

Glad to read that you and the mixer made it back in one piece!

I saw the weather conditions on CNN on the west coast and was thinking about you making that long trip. :eek:

As for getting it up the stairs by yourself, try putting it up one end and slide it up the stairs on some blankets, pushing it from the bottom, unless your wife is going to help you, in which case, give her the thin end to grab and she can walk up back-wards, with you grabbing the back end, pushing her up the stairs...this will put 80% of the weight on you and allow her to mostly just balance it.

Thanks for the tip Ghost. Actually, my stepson will be here in a few hours to help me. When I loaded it in LA, there were four people, and it STILL was a heavy motha. :rolleyes: Me and my stepson will do what you suggested, although its way to wide for the stairway laying down. It has to go up on edge, as there is a turn in the stairway which is very narrow. Hmmmm, I don't know how this is gonna work, but if we can get a king size mattress up there, then the mixer should go too. Thanks again Ghost.

One thing I'm a little pissed at myself about. Somehow, during the trip, I misplaced the manual. It may be buried in the truck, but I could have sworn I laid it right on the blankets covering the mixer. Not there now. crap. I hope I didn't set it on the canopy when I was moving things around to get my overnight bag out. I may have inadvertantly left it there and drove off with it on top. I was a complete zombie when I got to LA, not to mention when I got back to Sac after a one day round trip. I was seeing double by the time I got to Sac. Gettin to old for this shit. Ha! :rolleyes: :p
 
Thank god. Just found the manual. :D I'm a happy camper now. Whats strange, is the power supply says 3700, the manual says 3700, but the mixer says 3500 and has the automation, just like a 3700. The previous owner wasn't very illuminating either. He said he bought it new, and didn't use the automation, but said it wasn't working. Just "what" isn't working is the question. I'll have to investigate. No matter, this thing is plain cool. Makes my Studiomaster look like a toy. Ha!
 
Congrats on not losing the manual! The automation stuff in that book, alone, is priceless info to have on running it. The rest, I'm sure you could of figured out. :cool:

Hi Ghost. Yea, but it was a real chore. And I pulled a ligament in my hand that was carrying the weight....real bad. Fuck. Now I may have to take a few more days off work. Can't even turn a door knob. :rolleyes: But looking at the mixer makes it feel better. :D I'm going to work this morning and see if I can function. Awfully difficult to perform my job if I can't lift 3/4" ply up to the table saw though. Not to mention loading 4 or 5 sheets in customers trucks. The shop also has a woodworking supply warehouse as well. Constantly loading hardwood lumber and ply sheets.

As to the automation stuff...I was under the impression that JL Cooper had something to do with it, but the previous owner said this was a Tascam system. Maybe thats the difference between a 3500 and a 3700 automation.
I know one thing. It sure is dated. The memory is a 5" floppy. :eek: :rolleyes: I'll have to post something on the Tascam forums I guess. Its going to be a wihile before I can do ANYTHING with it though. One of the "bargaining chips" with my wife was finishing a bathroom remodel before I get back to the studio :rolleyes: ;) Couple of weekends and I should have it done.(not!) Pretty much just drywall finishing, a cabinet, a set of mirrors, lights, a shower installation, tile around the tub and paint. Ha! Maybe a couple of months of weekends now that I think about it. Crap. Oh well, a bargain is a bargain. :( Thanks Ghost.
