Man I only did this once with acoustic guitar and a singers voice...

M/S technique

Grab a mic that does a figure 8 pattern point it off axis from the sound source

Grab another mic with a cardiod pattern and point it at the source...

You could probably mimick this miking technique in post with with the waves ms/matrix but i'm not sure since I don't use the waves lineup on a regular basis. Also the software you listed isn't for multitracking so I'm not sure if it's even possible in post with that particular software considering you would need at least three tracks in post.

My name doesn't begin with 'big', but I figure I can post anyways. What bigwillz forgot to tell you is that once you record these 2 tracks, duplicate the figure 8 track & switch the polarity of the duplicate 180 deg. Then mix in the cardioid track to taste.

AH, thanks guys. now my recorder has a m/s feature built in, as does the wendt..though the post mixing sounds more doable..I imagine it takes some time and practice to get it right doing it on the fly.

I appreciate it fellas.

ah and bigwill...saw that you were in the army...im about to get out too. thank God. 11b is my MOS.

I really appreciate the help.

ok...so the tracking is like this

mid=cardiod on axis
side- bidirectional off axis (+ and -)

track one is the card, and the other two tracks are the fig 8, one with reversed polarity?
i can do this with the audio montage feature on wavelab 5.
