M-Audio - Fast Trackl Pro - Playing Back
Who ownes an M-Audio Fast Track Pro (other than me)?
Those slots along each side...Has anyone come across the accessory that makes it rack mountable?
Something that's weird is I'm able to have winamp (2.78) play back 24 bit wave files on my Dell Latitude notebook (running XP Pro SP2) through the integrated audio - headphone out) but not on my Sony Vaio with the same OS and the Fast Track Pro.
If I try a 24 bit using winamp on the Sony Vaio I get this message...
"the specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Use the capabilities function to determine the supported formats".
(I don't know if they're talking about Winamp or the whole Sony system?...or where to check)
The Techs at M-Audio said I had to upgrade to Sonar 2 or higher to be able to choose the ASIO drivers and then it will record and playback 24 bit. That's in Sonar...I don't see it making any difference for winamp unless Sonar loads the asio drivers and other progs use them when accessing Fat Track Pro.
I'm not familiar with ASIO drivers apart from being told to choose them.
I suppose that all makes sense...the windows drivers along with the integrated hardware on the Dell are able to handle 24 bit files (everywhere). Not so on the Sony Vaio.
On the Sony, "SoundForge" will play back the 24 bit files. Unless Soundforge is automtically dithering the 24 to 16 bit???
This is all without loading the newer Sonar 5.
Right now Sonar 1.02 will play back 16 bit multi track songs and even the 24 bit if I check the dither box.
Anyhow...I hope I haven't made this too wordy and someone has some ideas.
My next step is to load Sonar 5 and hopefully be able to operate on 24 bit multi track songs.
I sure would like to get winamp playing 24 bit waves because it's an excellent tool for checking out files on the fly.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Best regards,
