hi,

some intro first.

i have an acer 2012 wlmi which is centrino 1.5 with 512 ram, 60 gig, and a soundcard called realtek-ac 97 or something like that.

along with my radium 61, i'm using sonar 4 to do midi work using soft synths.
at this point, i'm making songs as a personal hobby.

when trying to bounce, or record the final piece, it sounds terrible, and im assuming its because of the poor quality of ac 97.

i thought about getting either the transit or the indigo i/o. the transit is currently 84 canadian dollars at a nearby store, and as for the echo i still have yet to hear from them how much it would cost to order.

what are your thoughts?

I say Transit just because it's a more clever name. :D

Seriously, though, I have 2 Echo Layla 24/96's for my tower and they work great. Echo is a pretty good company, but lots of people here have been satisfied with M-Audio's cards.

i see, would transit suffice for my basic midi work?

the thing i'm right now concerned with is

a) latency, the sound doesn't necessarily reflect the timing i press the keys.
b) sound quality, when i try to bounce my final projects they sound horrible with bzzz... in background.

The indigo costs around $179, and is a higher quality soundcard than the Transit.
If you want to compare another product in Transit's class, check out the
Creative Audigy2 zs Notebook cardbus interface($99 at gateway.com).
Of course if you can afford the Echo layla24 with laptop(cardbus)adaptor, it will be
even better.

vectron, thanks for the info.

suddenly, the creative audigy 2 zs you mentioned seems more attractive than both the echo indigo and the transit. maybe its because of its name 'audigy'.

how does this card fare? i would guess that its more in the echo indigo level due to the similar looks and that both are pcmcia based. am i wrong?

i checked the specs and they weren't. on a sidenote, seeing that you are from b.c do you know any good online sites to order audio stuff in canada?

maybe i should change my question...

would the audigy 2 zs notebook suffice for my needs? i found a store in my town that sells it for 145 canadian dollars.
