I'm thinking about getting one of the new Shinybox 23 or 46s. Will my Tampa have enough gain to push a ribbon mic?

Does your Tampa have enough gain for a Shure SM58?

The Shinybox 23 is reportedly the same guts as the Nady RSM-2 but with a different transformer on the ouptut stage. I assume it should have at least comparable output levels. The Nady RSM-2 is slightly hotter than an SM58. Use that as a rough guess benchmark.

i've found that the Tampa has plenty of gain "natively", and it's got a "+20dB" switch that you can engage when you need more. i've also found that the added gain with the +20dB switch tends to be a bit noisy.

but depending on the output of that ribbon, you might not need the extra gain.

cheers,
wade
