m-audio pre usb interface

hi i have a roland m-240 line mixer and recently purchased an m-audio pre usb interface off ebay. Im still waiting for the audio interface and was wondering if the xlr mic inptus would be suitable for running my mixer into. Is this a wise recording solution or did i waste my money?

You want to run the mixer outs into the "line in" of the USB preamp.

It's a good solution provided you only need to record two tracks at a time. You can pre mix more sources with your mixer down to 2 tracks, but then you won't be able to independently edit them later.
