I am relatively new to this home recording thing and I need some help.

I have Cakewalk Home Studio 2002. I had it loaded on a pc and recorded nicely using a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter into the factory sound card.

Then I got a laptop, and thought I'd get fancy..... so I bought a m-audio Omnistudio USB. The Omnistudio is MME and ASIO (but I don't know really what ASIO is).

I think the Cakewalk prefers WMD. I can't really make it work... at all, let alone very well.

Do I need different recording software, or a different soundcard? Or am I just an idiot (hey, now, be nice).

Any help is greatly appreciated...... :)

Does Home Studio 2002 support ASIO?

If so, you will get the best performance using it as your driver type.

Q.

The Cakewalk does not appear to use the ASIO drivers. It will support the MME, but I can't get it to communicate with card.

Any recording software, that is reasonably priced, that uses the ASIO??

Hey - you're in Australia. That's cool.

There are WDM drivers for the OmniStudio, and have been for a couple of years now...

Does the Omnistudio appear as an option in Windows Control panel Sound properties (sounds, playback and recording tab).

If Windows can't see it, Cakewalk won't either (unless ASIO is available). If it isn't there, it means the driver has failed to install properly.
