M-Audio Omni Studio question...

i need a way to record up to two tracks simultanously to the computer (vocals+guitar) and i thought that the Omni Studio might be my #1 choice.

my question is:

is it possible to record vocals and guitar to Cool Edit pro and have them as two different tracks in CEpro?

also, what's your generel opinion on the Omni Studio?

i mean, i wont ever record more than two channels at the same time and i already have a Behringer MX602A. is the Omni Studio the way to go?

any other suggestions?

I'm not using CEP, but the hardware is capable of 4 tracks at the same time. I've done that many at once with Guitar Tracks Pro, came out wonderfully.

Do some research. List the features you have to have, and compare to what the different I/O box + soundcard combos offer. In my case, I narrowed it down to the Terratec DMX 6fire, and the Omni Studio. The Omni won out because of better Linux support, since I will probably be going to a linux DAW once Ardour gets out of early beta stage.
 
Yes, you can record vox and guitar to 2 tracks, and simultaneously, too.

Since you have a mixer with 2 mic pres, phantom power, headphone outs, and send/return, I'm not sure that the Omni itself will do that much for you.

You might want to think about getting the Delta/44 card by itself, or the Audiophile 2496. You get 2 analog in/out, S/PDIF and MIDI for a heap less than the Omni.

I'd recommend getting rid of the behringer and just using the Omni since he'd have two preamps that I'm assuming are better with all of the routing options and inserts, etc.

Sell the behringer and get the Omni Studio!
