When I connect my headphones into the monitor output I get a clear signal, sounds fine. But when I connect my monitors to the output I get this funky distortion... anyone got some feedback? Thanks.

Try This
1)try plugging monitors into the Record (mix) Outs or direct outs(assuming ur using the pci version) if that makes a difference there maybe a problem with the monitor outs.
2)try different cables. If that makes a difference, then the type or condition of the cables was the problem
