ok so i basically want a soundcard that will enable me to record my band,

ive been looking around and i thought M-audio's Omni Studio (with the delta-66 PCI card) looked pretty good...

but i have some questions

will the omni allow me to play music off of my computer?
...like can i hook it up to a reciever and play my computers music that way?

it says 6 in 6 out, does that mean ill be able to record 6 mics in all, or are they left/right specific, and will i be only able to record 3 mics..

M-audio says that they "..are committed to supporting windows Xp"
does that mean that they actually support xp , or are they working on it?

if anyone has a suggestion for a different soundcard, im all ears

thank you

What about the M-Audio USB Omni Studio too?

Hey there, just too add on to this post than rather create a whole new one, also with your question about the M-Audio Omni Studio, I was looking at getting the M-Audio USB Omni Studio, pretty much the same except USB. Does anyone know anything about the USB version?
Thanks,
David

Yes, you can play your computer's music, if you mean stuff that you downolad or stream off the internet. There is no MIDI synth built into the Delta but most recording applications these days come with softsynths that make this a non-issue,

6 inputs and outputs means

4 line level analog inputs
a digital stereo port (S/PDIF)

To use the S/PDIF port you need something that has an S/PDIF output. L/R specific is meaningless, it's just a way of labeling the ins and outs in pairs, it has nothing to do with their actual independence from each other or your ability to pan elements of your mix anywhere you want.

The OMNI box itself offers mic preamps but I thought it was only two of them, not for all four analog ins. Look at M-Audio's website.

I've been running my Delta 66 (no OMNI but that piece is upstream from the computer anyway and irrelevant from the computer's perspective) for over a year now on XP with no problems at all.

The Omni breakout box does have only two pre-amps, located in the front mic/line inputs1 & 2. The rest of what Al Chuck told you is also true. It also does work with XP. I've been working with it for one and a half, no problems.

Don't know much about the USB model but I'm sure the cofiguration is probably the same. Check out the website. You can download the manual and check out the specs first hand.
