Hello, I am running a windows vista sp 1 operating system! I have just recently purchased the M-Audio Mobilepre for my desktop. I have installed the latest drivers and it appears to be working fine from the computer's view of things. But for some reason I cannot pick up any audio signals from my microphone.

There is a little button on the preamp that says signal, which I thought is suppose to light up every time you speak into the mic. Mine stays unlit. The Microphone I own is the AT 4040 condenser mic...and the recording program i am trying is the Adobe Audition 3.0.

At first I thought it was just my recording software, but if my preamp is not even picking up my microphone then it's pretty pointless downloading software trying to record and make music! PLEASE if anybody can help i would GREATLY appreciate it, I've been working on this for 3 1/2 hours straight and now have a serious migraine from getting nowhere fast!

I've also attached a couple of photos to maybe help determine what my problem may be. I was assuming this would have been a plug n play operation, the reason why i even went out the way to get a USB preamp so i wouldn't have much of a hassle. But I guess not! PLEASE HELP ME...I need to start recording ASAP, it is vital for my life's span lol.

Hello, and welcome to HR. I own the mobilepre, so maybe I can help. I'm not sure how new you are to recording digitally, but the at4040 is phantom powered, meaning that it needs to be powered by the mobilepreusb. make sure that you push the button that says phantom power on the mobilepreusb. It should then light up red, and providing you have selected the proper tracking on your DAW you should be in business. If you have already done this let me know and I'll try to help you a different way.

This Phantom power is on everything is hooked up right. When I talk in the mic it responds the lights come up. The problem is the program we are using is not recognizing it. Its like the computer is not picking it up when we record.

o. You said earlier that the signal light wouldnt light up. But now you are saying that everything lights up, and the gain responds when speaking into the microphone correct?

If it is as you are saying then my help seems to be limited here since I don't use audition. I use Protools, and in order to record, even if everything is hooked up correctly, I have to push the record button above the track in the mix window. and enable record in the edit window by pushing the button next to stop, play, etc called record enable. I then hit the spacebar and begin recording.

I'm still not sure how new you are but if your fairly new to this I would try the above process with your DAW, however Audition may be different than PT.

Other than that I would move this to the Audition or Newbie forums.
Good luck,
James

Okay, but do you know if there is a certain way to program it through audition. If the preamp is reading my microphone now and my computer recognizes my preamp, then the only probably should be the program settings.

You already use the same preamp i have, so i don't want help else were they might not have the same preamp.

honestly, It's been a while since I set the thing up, like three years. I do remember following the manuals for PT and the mobilepreusb religiously to set it up. That's about the best advice I can give you at the moment. If you haven't found an answer by tomorrow I'll try to look through mine but I can't right now. But if you haven't consulted the manual do that.

For some reason every time I try to install Pro Tools M Powered 7.4 for Vista it always have an error after installation. I've tried using the trial disc that came with my mobilepre and i tried a real version that i downloaded from a torrent.

I've don't have vista, so can't really help you there. I know for PT 7 you need an ilok (idk if this is the case with your trial version). Also, I wouldn't mention torrent on here because it is looked on pretty badly. We believe you should give the manufacturers their dues.

Yeah I understand, I did not come on here to talk about torrents, i believe to each his own!

I just finally got things working on adobe for the most part! But now a new problem has arrived. Is there a way that I can plug my headphones through the preamp and be able to here the beat that's playing from my computer?

Because if i plug the headphones directly in the pc, i would not be able to hear myself when i record. But when i tried to plug it directly into the preamp, I can only here the microphone.

Is there a way for me to hear sounds from my computer and my microphone at once? I know it is possible.

If i understand you correctly, you have some music on your pc that you want to hear through the headfones? Just plug your headfones into your preamp, go to control panel, double click sounds and audio devices, click the audio tab, and set the mobilepre as the default device. It should already be recognized if you have the drivers installed. good luck.
