Hi,

Anyone has tried this external firewire interface ?
Are the preamps comparable to a DMP3?
I'm looking for stability, good sound, low latency as will be going overseas for 6-8 months.
Thanks.

Pier.

My advice: get something with two preamps. That only has one, which would be very limiting even for basic recording.

This model is at least 4 years old.
Number of inputs is misleading. Only 2 simultaneous .. not all 6 inputs... booooooooooo.
I almost bought one in January ... but after reading the small print ... almost didn't notice
I'm waiting for something better from them with atleast 4 simultaneous --- 2 mic + 2 line

Hmmm.. if I only need at most 2 inputs at a time will it be ok?
Actually most of the time I record track by track so I really only need one at a time. But it would be nice to be able to record guitar and vocals at the same time.

If I don't get this, what else is good around its price range? Tapco.Link Firewire any good?
Thanks.

Another one I'm considering is the Presonus Inspire. Is that any good?

Probably reasonably decent, but it isn't quite compliant with the modern FireWire specs (too much inrush current drain when you first power it up). Some cards (and all current Macs) will fail to power it unless you use the AC adapter. Not necessarily a show-stopper, but if you plan to use it in a highly mobile environment, it's worth noting. (Of course, if you have a laptop and it doesn't provide power via FireWire, it's a moot point.)

So...what recommendations for a contemporary firewire audio interface?

I have the Presonus Firebox in Australia...but I've moved to Hong Kong and want to get something for here...

Any tips?

Ive used the M-Audio firewire solo for several years now, solid as a rock.

I'm looking for stability, good sound, low latency

It has all that. Ive never had so much as a hiccup from it since the day I plugged it in. No latency or monitoring problems at all. Sound quality is good. Judge for yourself: Listen to some tracks I did every track with only the firewire solo.

Mine is powered by firewire. Its real small and real simple: mics or guitars in front, line in in the back for synths. It also has s/pdif which I have never used. I think you can use spdif and line in at the same time, I am not sure. Ive been very happy with mine and logged thousands of hours of use with it.

Is that M-Audio solo a metal case? Are the firewire connections at the back housed well?
