M-Audio Firewire 410

It looks pretty good to me, especially as it used firewire, which in my opinion is much better than USB. Its portable too!!

This looks ideal for what I want, but am I write in thinking it works as a sound card too? As in you can record in 24bit through it? Or does it just work as an amp?

Yep, it is a soundcard, it just hooks up through firewire port.

A friend of mine recorded a sample on his, using an AT4040 mic.

From what I've heard the drivers haven't matured yet and it won't work on firewire controllers based on a NEC chip.

But with updated drivers it does look like a cool package.
