Hey, I've just set up my M Audio Firewire 1814 to my iMac and I'm hoping to use the ADAT ports. I'm attempting to connect it to my Yamaha O1V but the soundcard isn't recognising the ADAT input. I'm pretty sure I've covered all the idiot possibilities, like the ADAT cables going into the correct inputs and so on, and I'm pretty sure I've got the mixer set up correctly. I'm scared the two machines aren't compatable. I've had the O1V working with the ADATs fine with my old Creative emu 1212m, but as I've just bought the Mac I obviously couldn't continue using that soundcard. Anyway, any help would be great, thanks.

Yep. Is there anything else I should be aware about in the software setup?

I've just done a bit of research and I'm beggining to think that the ADAT card in my O1V is not compatible with the ADAT inputs on the Firewire soundcard. This is the card I have in the O1V > http://www.yamaha-europe.com/yamaha...rs/20_interface_io_cards/50_MY8_AT/index.html

They don't make the O1V anymore so is it possible that although both machines have the ADAT logo on them, could the age of the O1V be a problem? I'm not too clued up on the history of ADAT and so on, so I don't know if there has been several different versions of it or what. Any help again would be great, thanks.

they have to be compatible. make sure that the 1814 is set to the same wordlength/samplerate as the 01V

I would call maudio tech support, they are usually very helpful )at least they were when I contacted them). Adat is adat, its an older interface so there are no newer versions than what you have. Without reading though the manuals, I would guess that its a setting that is off somewhere. If worked with your emu, then the issue lies somewhere with the 1814 for sure

You mean it won't sync? Yeah, I saw that between the FW1814 and a MOTU 8Pre last weekend.

By any chance can the Yamaha slave to the M-Audio via word clock? Is it already? The FW1814 might be putting out sync that the Yamaha just won't lock to. Alternatively, the reverse may be true. If the word clock isn't hooked up, try hooking it up, and if it is, try yanking it, shutting the Yamaha down for 30 seconds (to reset the PLL) and powering it back on.

Failing that, make sure the FW1814 is getting enough clean power. If it isn't the first device in the FireWire chain or if there's more than about one device beyond it in the chain, the ADAT I/O on the FW1814 will go unstable. Try rearranging the devices on the FireWire bus and see if the problem goes away.

BTW, don't have your DAW running when you're doing all of this. It will push the interface towards a sample rate that might not be appropriate. If you are running nothing but the M-Audio "Control Panel", it will set itself to the right sample rate. Ditto for word length. In fact, I think it will just get transparently truncated or zero-padded in drivers if the word length doesn't match... or at least that's how the MOTU interfaces handle it.
