Can anyone tell me why I should go with the Delta 44 over the 2496? Is there a significant difference in quality? Ease of use? Flexibility?

I was going to get the 44, but I noticed that it doesn't have SPDIF or MIDI connections. I could use the SPDIF with my J-Station and the MIDI could come in handy to add some strings or keys or something.

Is there any card that I am missing that is in between the price range of these 2 that offers the best of both worlds?

Thats why I like my audiophile....sp/dif's for my J-station and midi connects.
The 44 will have more inputs though.
If you want the best of both worlds, the RME multiface is an outstanding unit, but cost around $750-$850
Of course a delta 1010 would be nice too

the delta 1010lt would give you the analog inputs (8in/8out) plus s/pdif plus 2 preamps...$249

Delta 44 have 4 inputs/outputs (balanced + 4db) in external box, but no midi and
no SPDIF (Delta 66 has SPDIF). Question is, do you need 4 ins/outs or is
stereo in/out RCA enough? There's no significant difference in quality,
Audiophile 2496 even have better AD/DA 4528 converters. I think
audio quality is in same level, Audiophile noise level maybe bit better.
